This year Oremi will be having its first event supporting the Destitute home in Ebute Metta on Thursday the 21st of December.
The Destitute home in Ebute Metta is a settlement camp in mainland Lagos, for displaced individuals who have come to Lagos in search for a better life and opportunities or because they have been forced to flee their homes, due to the current crisis in the north. The home also holds people with a variety of disabilities, who have come to Lagos to beg for alms to survive, hence the name, the Destitute home. It holds about 3000 adults and children not living in the best conditions and needing food, clean water and essential amenities. For most of the individuals in this community, it has been hard settling into Lagos, and as a result, most adults and children have resulted to begging to survive. The home also receives tremendous support from Agatha Obiageli Aghedo Memorial organisation (AOAMF). The AOAMF organisation in the past months has been working hard to provide amenities and awareness in different subject areas to this community. One of their main focus is education, and they have also succeeded in getting many of these children from this community to schools nearby.
